“Then Peter stepped forward with the other eleven apostles and shouted to the crowd,”… In the last days, God said, I will pour out My Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. In those days I will pour out My Spirit upon all My servants, men and women alike, and they will prophesy.”
Taken from: Acts 2, verses 14 – 18 New Living Translation
To prophesy is simply to hear something from God and then to pass that information on to somebody else. We believe that this promise is as much for us today as it was for those hearing Peter speak, and as much for our children (who are also sons and daughters!) as it is for us adults. We encourage our children to practise hearing God for themselves, and for others and always remind them that God is good and will always give them “nice” messages – even when pointing out something that is wrong, He will always show how to put things right.
The children spend some time quietly focusing their thoughts on God and asking Him for something to draw. Having “seen” a picture in their mind or “thought” what to draw they transfer these pictures onto paper. The children then ask God what He was saying through the pictures and this explanation is written down. If possible these are written by the children themselves or if they are unable to write a leader will write for them.
